Statement by H.E. Mr. Dian Triansyah Djani, Permanent Representative of Indonesia at the 13th Session of the Working Group on Universal Periodic Review – Consideration of the UPR Report of Poland
My delegation would like to welcome the delegation of Poland headed by H.E. Ms. Grazyna Bernatowicz and thank them for their comprehensive national report and continued engagement in the UPR process.
Indonesia commends the Government of Poland for the extensive and inclusive national reporting process, involving various national stakeholders, including the inter-ministerial coordination, parliamentary committees as well as the representatives of the NGOs and other relevant civil society.
My delegation welcomes the enactment in 2009 of the new curriculum for children and young people with special educational needs, focusing on the need to support social skills and on content concerning the rights of disabled persons. It clearly indicates positive measure of the Government of Poland in supporting equal educational opportunities. We therefore recommend the Government of Poland to continue their efforts in this regard.
Indonesia notes with appreciation measures taken by the Government of Poland in combating racism and xenophobia, including by establishing the “Council for Counteracting Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance” and through various initiatives to make Euro 2012 safe. In this regard, we recommend the Government of Poland to accelerate the finalization of the action plan by the Council with a view to ensure a well-planned and coordinated approach in combating such acts.
To conclude, Madam President, it is our strong belief that the promotion and protection of human rights should be continuous efforts for all countries. Therefore, Indonesia would like to convey its best wishes to the Government of Poland and its people in their continued endeavours in protecting and promoting human rights in the country.
I thank you.
