STATEMENT BY THE DELEGATION OF INDONESIA 26th SESSION OF THE WORKING GROUP ON UNIVERSAL PERIODIC REVIEW CONSIDERATION OF THE NATIONAL REPORT OF TOGO*
My delegation would like to thank the delegation of Togo, for the presentation of their national report and continued engagement in the UPR process.
Indonesia welcomes the progress taken by the Government of Togo since their first cycle including the establishment of the new Criminal Code which among others supports the inclusion of trainings on human rights and prevention of torture for police officers and the processing of complaints and investigations by the National Human Rights Commission.
We also note the efforts taken on the harmonization of international human rights instruments into the national legislation, as well as legislative measures for the promotion and protection of human rights.
We acknowledged that relevant human rights provisions of the 1992 Constitution have strengthened the adoption of various laws, however we view that the development of normative and institutional framework remains a priority. In this regard, we recommend that the Government of Togo continues its efforts to launch and implement a National Human Rights Action Plan in order to improve the promotion and protection of human rights.
Indonesia notes the implementation of decent work for all and the Strategic Plan for the Employment of Young People and the Operational Plan of Action for the Youth Policy which facilitates and ensures access to employment, especially for young entrepreneurs. Therefore, we recommend the Government of Togo to consider the ratification of the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families (ICRMW).
To conclude, Indonesia would like to offer its best wishes to the Government and people of Togo in their future endeavors towards the promotion and protection of human rights at all levels.
