My delegation would like to thank the delegation of Iceland for their presentation of their national report and continued engagement in the UPR process.
Indonesia welcomes the progress taken by the Government of Iceland since their first cycle, such as the recent ratification of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in September 2016, many initiatives undertaken to combat gender inequality as well as the adoption of the Act on Foreigners in June 2016 and Act of Immigrants in 2012 aimed at strengthening legal protection of foreigners and immigrants. Indonesia also appreciates the adoption of legislation on judicial reform in May 2016.
Indonesia would like to make the following recommendations to the Government of Iceland:
- Establish a national human rights institution in line with the Paris Principles and develop a comprehensive National Human Rights Action Plan;
- Consider ratifying the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families (ICRMW).
To conclude, Indonesia would like to offer its best wishes to the Government and people of Iceland in their future endeavors towards the promotion and protection of human rights at all level.
