STATEMENT BY THE DELEGATION OF INDONESIA AT THE 26th SESSION OF THE WORKING GROUP ON THE UPR CONSIDERATION OF THE REPORT OF UGANDA*
Indonesia would like to thank the Government of Uganda for presenting their national report. Indonesia welcomes the progress made by the Government of Uganda in implementing accepted recommendations since the first cycle. Indonesia commends the A status accreditation given to the Uganda Human Rights Commission and the adoption of the Prevention and Prohibition of Torture Acts. Indonesia also notes with appreciation the adoption of the Children Amendment Act No 19 of 2016 to better protect children from harmful customary.
Indonesia would like to make the following recommendations to the Government of Uganda:
- Continue to harmonize its domestic legislations with all international human rights instruments that Uganda is a party to.
- Improve health sector by increasing the national budget for health and by ensuring full and equal access to health in line with Uganda’s Health Sector Development Plan 2015/6- 2019/2020.
Indonesia wishes the Government of Uganda a successful review and implementation of its accepted recommendations.
