Mr. President,
My delegation welcomes the delegation of Chile, headed by H.E. Mr. Bruno Baranda, Minister for Social Development, and thanks them for the presentation of their second cycle UPR report.
Indonesia appreciates Chile for its tireless efforts to promote and protect human rights, in particular, its comprehensive ratification of main international human rights instruments as well as the efforts to increase protection of women.
Mr. President,
My delegation also believes that the efforts in the promotion and protection of human rights in Chile can be further strengthened. In this regard, my delegation would like to put forward the following recommendations:
- To continue its efforts in strengthening its institutional capacity to further promote and protect human rights, in particular to accelerate the establishment of an office of under-secretary general for human rights and to formulate a comprehensive national human rights’ plan of action.
- To further strengthen its efforts to promote right to education, including by implementing an affordable education program for all.
In conclusion Mr. President, my delegation wishes the People and Government of Chile all the best in their efforts to progress and to address the remaining human rights challenges in the country.
I thank you.
