January 29, 2014 Human Rights and Humanitarian Issues

Mr. President,

Indonesia welcomes the delegation of Uruguay and expresses our sincere thanks and appreciation for their national comprehensive report.

Indonesia appreciates Uruguay for its firm commitments to the promotion and protection of human rights in the country. In particular, the efforts to promote ECOSOC rights, including combating poverty and social inclusion and promoting the right to education for all.

Mr. President,

My delegation also believes that the efforts could be further strengthened. In this regard, my delegation would like to recommend the Uruguay government to strengthen its efforts in promoting and protecting the right to health, including access to comprehensive health care. We also recommend the government to continue its efforts to ensure an equal opportunity to participate in political process for all of its citizens.

To conclude, Mr. President, my delegation wishes the People and Government of Uruguay all the best in their efforts to address the remaining human rights challenges in the country.

I thank you.
