Statement by the Delegation of Indonesia* at the 20th Session of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group, Consideration of the UPR Report of El Salvad
Mr. President,
My Delegation would like to warmly welcome the delegation of El Salvador to the 20th session of the UPR Working Group. We also would like to thank the delegation of El Salvador for the presentation of their national report.
Indonesia welcomes the positive measures that have been taken by El Salvador in recent years to promote human rights including the adoption of a number of legislations aimed at protecting women from acts of violence and discrimination. Indonesia also commends the adoption of the Special Act on the Protection and Advancement of Salvadoran Migrants and Their Families in 2011.
El Salvador’s commitment with respect to fulfilling its obligations under international instruments on human rights is equally commendable. In this regard, Indonesia appreciates the efforts by the Government of El Salvador to implement the United Nations Convention against Torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment (UNCAT), and recommend to continue and improve the efforts.
Furthermore, Indonesia would also like to recommend the Government of El Salvador to continue its efforts to involve relevant stakeholders, including civil society as a partner of the government in promoting and protecting human rights.
In closing, Indonesia would like to offer its best wishes to the Government and people of El Salvador in their future endeavours towards the promotion and protection of human rights at all levels.
I thank you.
Geneva, 27 October 2014
