Statement by the Delegation of Indonesia Permanent Representative of the Republic of Indonesia at the 21st Session of the Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review Consideration of the National Report of Armenia

January 22, 2015 Human Rights and Humanitarian Issues

Mr. President,

My delegation would like to welcome the delegation of Armenia lead by H.E. Mr. Ashot Hovakimian, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, and thank them for the presentation of their national report.

We noted the fact that the report contains various measures taken by the Government of Armenia in the promotion and protection of human rights based on the recommendations from the first UPR cycle.

Mr. President,

Indonesia welcomes the formulation of the National Strategy for the Protection of Human Rights as well as the Action Plan deriving from the Strategy. As a country which has already formulate similar national human rights action plan, Indonesia always believes that Action Plan adopted by the Government of Armenia will serve as a comprehensive document which encompasses the policy carried out in the field of human rights. In this regard, we recommend the Government of Armenia to take all measures in further implementing its National Human Rights Action Plan, in particular by allocating sufficient funding from national budget.

Indonesia is of the view that the rights of migrant workers should be one of the priority of the international community due to its direct relation to the development of the economic condition both in the sending as well as the destination countries. In this regard, we welcome the decision of the Government of Armenia to sign the Convention on the Protection of rights of all Migrant Workers and Members of their Families (ICMW) on 2013 and therefore we recommend Armenia to continue and speed up the process of ratification of ICMW.

Mr. President,

In conclusion Indonesia wishes the People and Government of Armenia all the best in their ongoing and future endeavors in the promotion and protection of human rights in their country.

I thank you.
