STATEMENT BY THE DELEGATION OF INDONESIA 23RD SESSION OF THE WORKING GROUP ON UNIVERSAL PERIODIC REVIEW CONSIDERATION OF THE UPR REPORT OF NEPAL *

November 4, 2015 Human Rights and Humanitarian Issues

Thank you Mr. President,

My delegation would like to welcome the Delegation of Nepal and thank them for  their national report.

Indonesia commends the efforts by the Government of Nepal in advancing the promotion and protection of human rights, with regard to our previous recommendation on comprehensive legislation and enforcement in the areas of domestic violence and human trafficking.

Indonesia also notes with appreciation the commitment of the Government of Nepal on the continued implementation of its fourth generation of National Human Rights Action Plan.

Mr. President,

Indonesia notes a number of measures taken by the Government of Nepal to prevent and manage the risk of exploitation of migrant workers. In this connection, we recommend the Government of Nepal to continue its consideration to ratify the ICMW (International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families).

We appreciate the effort of the Government of Nepal to gradually provide secondary education for free and make primary education compulsory. We therefore recommend the Government of Nepal to continue its efforts to improve access to education for all, including by providing adequate resources.

Finally, we wish the Government and People of Nepal all the best in their endeavors to further promote and protect human rights in the country.

I thank you.
