STATEMENT BY THE DELEGATION OF INDONESIA 24th SESSION OF THE WORKING GROUP ON UNIVERSAL PERIODIC REVIEW CONSIDERATION OF THE NATIONAL REPORT OF THE REPUBLIC OF SEYCHELLES *

January 25, 2016 Human Rights and Humanitarian Issues

Mr. President,

Indonesia would like to thank the delegation of the Republic of Seychelles for their comprehensive national report and continued commitment to the UPR Process.

Indonesia welcomes the progress taken by the Government of the Republic of Seychelles since their first UPR cycle, including the efforts to strengthen its National Human Rights Commission in conformity with the Paris Principles as well as in developing a five year National Action Plan on Human Rights. In line with this progress, we recommend the Government of Seychelles to further involve civil society as a partner of the government in promoting and protecting human rights.

Mr. President,

Indonesia recognizes the Government of Seychelles’ sustained commitment to promote the protection of Human Rights, namely through its ratification and signing of Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of Child. We also note with appreciation Seychelles’ measures to ensure the full implementation of International Human Rights Instruments it had ratified.

Furthermore, as a fellow member of the Convention against Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman, or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, as well as the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers, Indonesia would like to recommend the Government of Seychelles to continue and enhance its efforts towards the full implementation of both instruments.

To conclude, Mr. President, Indonesia would like to bid its best wishes to the Government and people of Seychelles in their venture towards the promotion and protection of human rights at all levels.

Thank you.
