Mr. President,
My delegation would like to extend its appreciation to the Delegation of Australia for its constructive engagement in the second cycle of the UPR.
Indonesia expresses its appreciation to Australia for accepting our recommendations to further promote multiculturalism by taking measures against incitement of discrimination or violence, based on race or religions, and strengthening interfaith dialogue among communities, as well as to ensure that the issue of asylum seekers and refugees are addressed in line with the principles of the Bali Process, and Australia’s other human rights and humanitarian obligations.
At the same time, we recognize that our recommendations on the ratification of the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families (ICRMW) and consolidation of federal human rights act and National Human Rights Plan of Action was noted, but will not be considered at this time. Thus, in the future, Indonesia encourages Australia to continue taking necessary initial steps towards its ratification and consolidation.
Finally, Indonesia recommends that the Council adopts the Report of the Working Group on the UPR of Australia. We wish the people and Government of Australia success in implementing all its accepted recommendations.
Thank you.
