STATEMENT BY THE DELEGATION OF INDONESIA 25th SESSION OF THE WORKING GROUP ON UNIVERSAL PERIODIC REVIEW CONSIDERATION OF THE UPR REPORT OF THE SUDAN*

May 4, 2016 Human Rights and Humanitarian Issues

Mr. President,
Indonesia wishes to thank the Hon. Minister of Justice of the Sudan for presenting its national report.
Indonesia appreciates efforts by the Government of the Sudan to strengthen its policy on the protection and promotion of human rights. We welcome establishment of the National Plan to Promote and Protect Human Rights in Sudan (2013-2023), the National Human Rights Commission in 2012 and the National Committee for Combating Human Trafficking 2014.
We also appreciate efforts in improving health services, access to education for children and persons with disabilities, and in combating violence against women.
In the spirit of constructive support, Indonesia wishes to recommend the following:

  1. Strengthen efforts to address the prevention of torture and inhuman treatment through the ratification of the Convention against Torture, and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CAT).
  1. Consider to sign and ratify the Convention on the Protection of the Rights of all Migrant Workers and Members of their Families, and to accede to the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women.

We wish the Government of Sudan a successful UPR.
Thank you.
