STATEMENT BY THE DELEGATION OF INDONESIA 25th SESSION OF THE WORKING GROUP ON UNIVERSAL PERIODIC REVIEW CONSIDERATION OF THE NATIONAL REPORT OF ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA *

May 9, 2016 Human Rights and Humanitarian Issues

Mr. Vice President,
My delegation wishes to begin by thanking the Government of Antigua and Barbuda in presenting the national report on the efforts taken in the field of human rights since the first UPR cycle.
Indonesia commends the efforts by the Government of Antigua and Barbuda to enact and amend several national legislations to better promote and protect human rights in the country and to fulfill its international human rights obligations.
Indonesia also appreciates the establishment of several institutions to support the implementation of international human rights instruments, inter alia the Ombudsman and the Office of the Information Commissioner.
As the advancement of human rights requires continued efforts, Indonesia would like to recommend the Government of Antigua and Barbuda to consider acceding to all core United Nations human rights instruments, including the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of all Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families (ICRMW).
Indonesia also recommends the Government of Antigua and Barbuda to promote further engagement with international human rights mechanisms, including in seeking technical assistance from the Office of the UN Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
To conclude, Mr. Vice President, Indonesia wishes the Government of Antigua and Barbuda and its people every success in their future endeavors towards a better promotion and protection of human rights in the country.
I thank you.
