STATEMENT BY THE DELEGATION OF INDONESIA 25th SESSION OF THE WORKING GROUP ON UNIVERSAL PERIODIC REVIEW CONSIDERATION OF THE UPR REPORT OF THAILAND*

May 11, 2016 Human Rights and Humanitarian Issues

Mr. President,
My delegation thanks the Delegation of Thailand for presenting their national report and constructive engagement with the UPR Process.
Indonesia appreciates the various efforts taken by the Government of Thailand on the promotion and protection of human rights in Thailand since the first UPR cycle. We note with appreciation the enactments of Gender Equality Act, Justice Fund Act, and the amendment of the Organic Law on Anti-Corruption.
Mr. President,
In the spirit of partnership and cooperation, we recommend the Government of Thailand the following:
To continue efforts to strengthen legal framework, including considering ratifying the ICRMW.

  1. To continue support the work of the National Human Rights Commission in line with the Paris Principles.
  2. To continue efforts to combat IUU fishing, including illegal labor in the fisheries sector, taking into account its human rights and extraterritorial dimensions.

Mr. President,
For its part, Indonesia stands ready to continue its constructive cooperation and engagement through bilateral, ASEAN, and international channels with Thailand.
Indonesia wishes Thailand all the best in its future endeavors towards the promotion and protection of human rights at all levels.
Thank you.
