STATEMENT BY THE DELEGATION OF THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA DURING THE ADOPTION OF THE REPORT OF WORKING GROUP ON THE UNIVERSAL PERIODIC REVIEW OF SINGAPORE*

June 27, 2016 Human Rights and Humanitarian Issues

Mr. President,
My delegation would like to extend its appreciation to the Delegation of Singapore, a fellow ASEAN Member, for its constructive engagement in the second UPR cycle.
Indonesia welcomes Singapore’s continuous commitment in advancing the promotion and protection of human rights while upholding fair and inclusive social harmony through implementing measures to promote the rights of women, children and persons with disabilities, as well as in preserving racial and religious harmony.
Mr. President,
Indonesia expresses its appreciation to Singapore for ratifying the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD) and the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the Sale of Children, Child Prostitution and Child Pornography (OP-CRC-SC).
Meanwhile our recommendation on the accession of the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families (ICRMW) and the Convention against Torture (CAT) was noted. Therefore, Indonesia encourages Singapore to continue taking necessary initial steps towards the accession of the ICRMW and CAT.
Finally, Indonesia supports the Council’s adoption of the Report of the Working Group on the UPR of Singapore. We wish the people and Government of Singapore success in implementing all its accepted recommendations.
Thank you.
