STATEMENT BY THE DELEGATION OF INDONESIA AT THE 26th SESSION OF THE WORKING GROUP ON THE UPR CONSIDERATION OF THE REPORT OF VENEZUELA*
Indonesia would like to thank the Government of Venezuela for presenting a comprehensive and an up-to-date national report on the progress made as well as the remaining challenges. Indonesia would also like to thank Venezuela for accepting a number of Indonesia’s recommendations during the 1st cycle namely to continue to expand its legal framework for the promotion and protection of human rights and to intensify efforts to promote and protect the rights of woman, particularly in regard to gender based violence.
Indonesia would also like to commend the Government of Venezuela for concrete improvements in several fields namely access to education, provision of high-quality health services, the establishment of several institutions to advance women’s rights and the initiative to start the development of National Human Rights Plan of Action.
In further enriching the already positive developments, my delegation would like to recommend the followings to the Government of Venezuela:
- To continue improving the performance of NHRI in Venezuela in accordance with the standards set out in the Paris Principles;
- To introduce an inclusive process involving all relevant stakeholders in developing the national human rights plan of action;
- To continue improving the freedom of expression practices in the country;
- To improve the national policies in promoting and protecting the rights of migrant workers.
